Urgent Care Q & A

What is an Urgent Care Visit?

Urgent care visits are just that. Visits to the doctor which require urgent care. These visits are usually scheduled at the last minute because a person does not feel well or has become injured. Frequently, urgent care visits are walk-ins, which mean that no appointment was scheduled, you simply came to the center to get help. This is common and most times patients come into the office and wait until the doctor is available. Concerns which fall under urgent care include:

  • Cold and flu symptoms
  • Sore throat
  • Rash
  • Bad cough
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Earache
  • Moderate injury or accident

These visits are designed to address minor but urgent medical issues. For more serious issues involving preventative services or chronic illness, call the office to schedule an appointment a head of time. For medical emergencies such as shortness of breath, dangerous injuries, or chest pains, patients should go to the emergency room immediately.

What Should I Do When I Arrive at the Urgent Care Center?

When a patient comes into the office for an urgent care matter, they should speak to the receptionist to ensure the issue is not something which requires emergency attention. When the person talks to the receptionist or nurse, he or she should describe all the symptoms being experienced in detail. The will help the nurse or receptionist determine if the patient needs to go to the ER and will also help the doctor when the person is being evaluated.

When Should I Visit an Urgent Care Clinic?

You should go to an urgent care clinic when you need prompt medical treatment for an illness or injury which has occurred or started recently. This condition will be an ailment or injury which requires attention, but is not severe enough to merit a trip to the emergency room.

The staff can treat fractures, take X-rays, provide IV fluids and can process lab test at the site.
