How do I choose an ob-gyn?
Not all gynecologists are the same, and one may work great for some women, but not for others. Selecting one for yourself is a very personal decision and should not be rushed. First and foremost, you should check to see if our doctors are with your insurance’s “network.” You will want to check with your insurance about the benefits associated with your policy and our insurance page to see if the carrier is listed. If it isn’t, feel free to call any of our offices to double check. Out of network visits are very costly, and we don’t want to surprise you with a larger than expected bill when you visit.

Another factor that goes into selecting a doctor is your health history. Do you have one or several chronic conditions? If so, you may require a higher level of care beyond our clinic. Your current and past medical history will be something you will review with your doctor during a visit to our clinic.

How should I prepare for my ob-gyn visit?
Preparing for a visit to our clinic is not tricky, and by coming prepared, you will help facilitate your visit. First, there is no need to do any “grooming” of your pelvic area. Removing hair from that area can cause swelling or inflammation, making an examination difficult. Do not be concerned about discharges and avoid douching. While it may be embarrassing, this is critical information to help our doctors diagnose an issue. You should also not have sex at least two days before your appointment, as this could affect test results. Your doctor will want to know information about your cycle, so keep track of that information for our provider. Also, don’t schedule an appointment during your period unless you have heavy or irregular periods. Finally, bring any relevant medical records with you.

What happens during an ob-gyn visit?
First, you will receive a general health check where our doctor will review your vitals. Next will be a physical exam where you will disrobe and given a gown to dress in. Our doctor will meet you in the private examination room and ask you some general health questions and family history questions.

Then, our doctor will begin to examine the outside of your vagina, looking for any abnormalities. Next, our doctor will use a speculum to exam the inside of your vagina and cervix. You may feel some pressure during this time, but it shouldn’t be painful. Finally, our doctor will examine the walls of your vagina.

There may be additional tests and samples taken. Depending on your age and risk factors, our doctor may test for HPV, cervical cancer, and other abnormalities. We can also check for a sexually transmitted disease at our location.

What are questions that I can ask my ob-gyn?
Feel free to ask us anything that is on your mind. Most commonly, we answer questions about birth control. For example, we often are asked what kind is best for a patient or when to come off it to start a family.

What are some questions my ob-gyn will ask during my visit?
Our doctors will ask you about your current and past medical history. They will want to know if there has been an unusual pain or discharges during everyday activities or intercourse. Even if you do not think it is much of anything, let our providers know so they know your complete medical history.

Do you accept my health insurance?
Our clinic accepts many major insurances. Visit our insurance page for a complete list of carriers.
