When should I go to urgent care vs ER?
Urgent care centers are for the majority of non-emergency situations, or those that happen outside of normal business hours. Be sure to check the hours of operation for any urgent care clinic or center that you are thinking of visiting.
There are many reasons to go to an urgent care center for treatment, rather than the ER, particularly when the situation is urgent, but not an emergency. There are benefits of using urgent care, rather than the ER for urgent or minor non-emergency medical situations. For one, urgent care is typically faster than the ER – with the majority of patients waiting thirty minutes or less to see a doctor and are usually in and out within an hour. Additionally, urgent care centers welcome walk-in patients and there is no need for you to schedule an appointment.
How much does urgent care cost?
Urgent care is highly affordable, much more so than going to the emergency room or an ambulance ride, for non-emergency situations. On average, the cost for a visit to urgent care varies between $100 and $200; if you have any questions about insurance coverage or cost, call the clinic you are looking at for more information about what insurance plans they accept and what their self-pay options are and how much those cost. It is important to note that the cost of urgent care is far, far less than what you would be charged if you went to an emergency room – whether you have insurance or not.
Is urgent care covered by insurance?
Urgent care centers accept most major insurance plans. If you have any questions about what your insurance will cover and whether an urgent care center is in your network or not, call your insurance provider or the center that you are looking at to find out more information.
At Ahava Medical & Rehabilitation, we accept most insurance providers – check our website to see if yours covers our services or call us at (718) 213-4008 for more information.
What does urgent care treat?
Urgent care centers treat a variety of conditions that may require urgent, but not emergency, medical treatment. They routinely treat a large number of non-emergency health conditions and provide a wide variety of medical services outside of those treatment options. Some of the conditions that are regularly treated in urgent care centers are: minor allergic reactions and asthma; cuts, burns, bug bites, and animal bites; falls, sprains, strains, and broken bones; colds and flus; pink eye; ear infections; sinus pressure and sinus infections (sinusitis); and bronchitis and strep throat.
